on One Day at a Time Scene One - Twin Peaks General Hospital "What's happening?" Natasha asks as a look of horror is on her face as doctor's quickly start to work on Jacob, whose monitor is still beeping crazily. She wishes Shane was with her so she understood what was happening. "I wish someone would tell me what is going on with my son!" Adam puts his hands on Natasha's shoulders and tries to calm her down. "I'm sure that it's nothing," he says back to her, hoping to comfort her. "I'm sure they will have everything under control very soon." They watch from outside the ICU room as the doctors seem to stabilize Jacob and his monitors return to normal. Natasha looks at Adam and breathes a sigh of relief. "Thank God," she says as she hugs him. "I was so scared Adam." Before Adam can reply to her, the doctor comes out of the ICU and looks at Natasha. "I'm sorry you had to see that," she tells Natasha, who turns to face the doctor. "What do you mean? I want to know what's happening with Jacob. What happened to him just now?" Natasha asks her, wanting to know the truth. "His lungs were developing nicely Natasha," the doctor replies to her. "But he has developed an infection on his left lung. We are trying to keep it up under control. What you just saw was an attack." "An infection?" Natasha gasps in horror. "What does that mean? How do these attacks happen?" "Like I said, we are doing everything we can to get it under control. It's a minor setback in Jacob's road to leaving the hospital. The attacks cause him to have a hard time breathing. His new medication will help with that." Natasha tries to absorb everything that the doctor is saying. "Can I go in and see him?" "Of course, just make sure you put the protective scrubs on because we don't want any more germs getting close to him," the doctor tells her. Natasha nods before she turns back to look at Adam, who is now looking at his phone. "Do you mind if I cut our visit short? I want to go see my son." "Of course," Adam says back to him. "I actually just got a message from Helen. Her father has had a stroke and they've had him transferred here. I should go see if I can get more information." Natasha covers her mouth in shock. "When will this craziness end?" she asks as she pulls him into a hug. "Give Helen a hug for him and keep me posted." "I will and you keep me posted with Jacob. He will be okay Natasha," he tells her as she wipes a tear from her face. "If you need anything " "I know, thanks Adam," she says, trying to calm herself down from all the news she just got. Scene Two - Barcode Andy sits at the bar in the gay club sipping his whiskey. He couldn't sit at home for another evening just thinking about Reese and their potential life together. It's obvious to everyone that Andy is still struggling very much with the passing of his husband. Everywhere he looked, he was reminded of his life with Reese and what could have been. As he takes a sip of his whiskey, he realizes that he hasn't been to the gay bar in a very long time. He and Reese were so in love that they hadn't gone out much when they were together. Of course, the last few months of their lives were also in limbo because of Reese's cancer. So much of their time was spent in the hospital and together as they didn't know when Reese's time was going to be up. He hates that he is alone now. Andy takes another sip of the whiskey and finishes his glass. He sets the empty glass down in front of him and looks over at the bartender. "I'll have another," he says as the bartender comes up and pours him more whiskey. "It's not often we have a guy come in that wants whiskey on the rocks," the bartender says back to Andy, trying to make small talk. "I've had a lot of things happen in my life that go against the grain," Andy replies to him. "Andy?" Craig asks as he walks up to the bar. "What are you doing here?" Andy turns and sees his ex-boyfriend. Andy raises his glass before he takes a drink. "Having a drink, what does it look like it? What are you doing here?" Craig shakes his head knowing he is meeting his new boyfriend there for a quick drink. "How much have you had to drink? You smell of booze badly." "What difference does that make?" Andy asks him, taking another drink and finishing his glass. "I can pay my tab, so it doesn't matter." Andy tries to get off his stool but he stumbles and his glass smashes into the ground. "My God," Craig says as he bends over and helps Andy get up from the ground. "I'm fine, I'm fine," Andy says pushing Craig off him. "You're not fine. I'm going to call you a cab so you can go home and get some sleep." "Nooo," Andy tries to say back to him, but Craig signals to the bartender to get a cab. "I told you, I'm fine!" "Come on Andy, sleeping this off will be good for you," Craig says as he puts Andy's arm around him and they start to move to the door. "Sleeping isn't good anymore for me," Andy slurs out. "You know why Craig? Cause, I always dream of Reese and when then I wake up, I'm always reminded that he's gone again." "Oh Andy," Craig sighs as they get to the door. "You will be okay. Things will start to get better. But you have to start by getting some sleep." "Well they can't get much worse, can they?" Andy replies with half of a drunken chuckle. Scene Three - The Pampa Grill "Honey, these ideas for the hospital gala are brilliant," Eva says to Donovan as they sit across from each other at the restaurant. "I knew that you and Craig would be able to work well as a team to put this together for me." Donovan takes a sip of his wine and nods back to his mother. "I'm glad you approve Mom. I really wanted this gala to be everything that you and Dominick would be proud of." "I can't wait to tell Dominick what you have come up with. We don't have much time to finish the final touches though, you know the gala is in a couple of weeks." "Trust me," Donovan says back to her with a chuckle. "I haven't been doing much of anything else lately other than work on this. I know very well the time crunch we are now in." Before Eva can reply, Victoria quickly walks up to the table and sits down next to Eva. "I'm so sorry I'm late," she says as she pours herself a glass of the wine from the bottle that's on the table. Eva watches as her daughter quickly takes a drink of her wine. "Long day?" Eva asks as she arches her eyebrow, thinking it is not like her daughter to rush and drink some wine. "You have no idea," Victoria replies to her mother. She suddenly looks over at Donovan. "Hi Donovan," she says to him. "What's going on with you guys?" Donovan looks over at her, thinking the same as Eva. "We are fine. I think we are more concerned about you. What's going on? Is it Robbie?" Victoria sighs and looks back at her family. "I guess it is Robbie, yea," she admits to them as she thinks about the man that she loves. She knows that he is going through a rough time right now because of Leah's death. She knew that he would be impacted but the fact that he's still obsessing about it. She doesn't know what her next step will be. "He is taking Leah's death really, really, badly." "Well, they were married for a number of years," Eva reminds her, trying to figure out if Victoria is the one thinking too much of the situation. "It's only normal for him to be upset." "I know," Victoria says half rolling her eyes. "I guess I just feel like I don't know who he is right now. He's acting so different. I know grief can do that to some people I just hope that it's a phase." "Everyone deals with grief in their own way," Donovan says back to his sister. "Just be there for him when he reaches out to you and believe me, Vic, he will reach out to you. Losing someone doesn't have a time table on how or when people get over it." Victoria picks up her wine glass and takes another sip. "I hope you're right," she smiles back to her mother and brother, grateful that she has their support. Scene Four - The Claus House; Jeff, Paige & Felicia's Home Jeff sits in the living room holding a gin and tonic in his hand. He is holding a photo album; he turns the page with his free hand and sees a picture of himself, Paige and Leah from a few years ago. He runs his hand over Paige's face and can't help but think of the last time he and his daughter were in this room together. She basically told him that he was to blame for Leah's death. The words cut him like knives because he never thought that she would blame him for Leah's death. He can't believe that Paige actually believes that; the last thing he wanted was for Leah to die when they went to Lake Tahoe to get married. He fears that if he tries to express that to Paige, it will come across like he blames Felicia for everything that went down in Lake Tahoe. He stands up and takes a drink of his gin. As his mind races, he wonders if Felicia has said something to Paige. Jeff knows that Leah's mother has never liked him because she felt that he was after her; the truth of it was, Jeff only wanted his life back with Leah after Felicia came into their lives. Liking her had nothing to do with it, Jeff thinks to himself. Again, he feels like he's treading on thin ice. "Whatever the reason is," he whispers to himself. "I have to make Paige understand that I didn't want Leah to die," he says a loud. "I hate that you're gone. I miss you so much Leah," he says to his wife as he looks at a picture of Leah and Jeff on the fire mantel. "I will make our daughter understand." He pauses when he hears the doorbell ring. Wondering who it could be, he moves to the front door. "Robbie," he says when he sees Leah's ex-husband on the other side. "What can I do for you?" "You can get out of my house," Robbie replies to him as he pushes himself past Jeff and into the foyer of the house. Scene Five - The Park Frederick and Felicia walk through the park, each holding a takeout hot chocolate from the Sugarbowl. The leaves on most of the trees have fallen but the autumn evening is still warm if you have a big sweater on. Frederick looks over at his patient and knows that Felicia getting out and having some fresh air will be good for her as she starts to recover some of her memories from the night that Leah died. He wants to be with Felicia when remembers in case she has some kind of melt down because of her role in Leah's death. He knows that her recalling that she kidnapped Leah will be very traumatic for Felicia. "This is such a nice evening," Felicia smiles before she takes a sip of her hot chocolate, oblivious to his concerns. "Thank you for bringing me to the part for this walk Frederick, it was a nice idea." "I'm glad you think so," Frederick says back to her. "Getting you out of the house once in a while is a very good thing." "It's funny, my son told me the same thing the other day when we went out," Felicia informs him, recalling her and Tyler's outing to the coffee shop. "You and Tyler went out?" Frederick asks her. "Yea, he took me to the Sugarbowl for coffee. It was nice. I had missed my son so very much while he was away," Felicia replies to him. Frederick smiles and looks at her as they stop on the pathway. "I'm so proud of how far you've come Felicia. You're making such wonderful progress." "I couldn't have done any of this without you Frederick, I hope you know that." Frederick grabs her hand. "You know that I would do anything for you, right?" Felicia looks down and then slowly back up to him. "I do know that, Frederick. I just want you to know how much I appreciate it." Frederick finds himself moving closer to her. He leans down and soon their lips are touching softly. Dominick, happens to be walking through the park at the same time and he freezes when he sees his wife kissing her doctor. The kiss only lasts for a moment before Felicia pulls back. "I'm sorry," Frederick quickly says to her. She shakes her head a little. "It's fine," she replies to him. "But I am still married to Dominick." "If I could go back " "It's already forgotten Frederick," she smiles to him, not realizing that he is crushing her completely. Scene Six - Twin Peaks General Hospital "Helen," Adam calls out as he rushes into the waiting room, where Helen and Barbara are sitting. "I just got your message, what happened?" Helen stands up when she sees Adam enter the waiting room. She moves to her husband and hugs him tightly as she finds herself starting to cry. She had been so strong up the point of seeing Adam; while she was in Baltimore, she knew she had to be strong for Barbara. She didn't want her mother to see her cry after Reg had his stroke. Now that she has Adam to lean on, Helen is letting it all out. They exit their embrace and Adam looks at his wife. "Oh baby, tell me what happened?" he tells her as he gives her a tissue. Helen wipes her eyes. "My father had a stroke," she reveals as Adam looks back in shock. "I had him transferred here so you and Dawn could be close. I don't think I can go through this without you." "And you don't have too," Adam says back to her. "How is Reg doing?" Barbara comes up to them and puts his hand on Adam's arm. "Reg is resting," she tells him. "I'm worried about him when he wakes up because I know the doctors are going to ask him to stop smoking. He won't like that." "Maybe a medical crisis is exactly what he needs to make some changes," Adam suggests, shocking both Helen and Barbara. "I don't think we need to discuss this right now until Reg is awake," Barbara waves her hand. "I'm going to go and see if there's any update on my husband." "You couldn't resist, could you?" Helen asks her husband, growing upset with him. "Even when my father is laying in a hospital bed, you had to take a dig at him." "That's not what I meant," Adam says, shocked that Helen is turning on him because of his comment. "Well that's exactly how it came across," she snaps back at him. "You better get used to my parents being here Adam. They're going to be staying with us after my Dad is released from the hospital." "What did you just say?" Adam asks her, knowing that he left Baltimore early because he couldn't deal with Reg's snide remarks about him. He knows he will not be happy if Reg is living with them. "You heard me," she replies to him. "I told my Mother that she and Reg could stay with us. And, it's not up for discussion." *** Natasha closes the door to the ICU and takes off the protective scrubs that she is wearing. She just left visiting Jacob after learning that he has an infection on one of his lungs. She feels her eyes swell with water as she thinks of her precious child laying in his incubator fighting to even breathe. She wants nothing more to make this all go away. "Natasha?" Shane asks as he approaches her, finally having a moment free. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?" Natasha looks up at her husband and can't believe that he wasn't with her when Jacob went into shock earlier in the day. She was so scared and she was alone because Shane was working. In her mind, this is more proof that he shouldn't have accepted the Chief of Staff position. "It's Jacob," she whispers to him. "He went into shock earlier because he has an infection in one of his lungs." Shane shakes his head and runs his hand over his face trying to absorb the information that he is hearing from his wife. "Is he okay now?" he finally asks her, trying to stay calm himself. "Yes, he's stable and the doctors have said that they are working very hard to get rid of the infection," she tells him. "Of course, you'd know all of this had you been here with me." "I'm sorry you were here alone to deal with this," Shane says back to her as he moves closer to her to try to hug her. "Don't touch me right now Shane," she snaps back at him. "I can't believe that you've put your job before our son. He needed you " she says as a tear falls from her eye. "I needed you and you weren't around. So don't come up to me now and pretend that you want to be here because you've obviously made your choice." "Nat, come on, that's not fair," he pleads with her. "Just save it," Natasha says as she moves away from her husband. Scene Seven - The Claus House; Jeff, Paige & Felicia's Home "What are you talking about?" Jeff asks Robbie, who has moved to the bar to pour himself a drink. "Oh, and by all means, help yourself to a drink." Robbie turns around and takes a sip of the drink he made before he gets a slight grin on his face. "In case you forgot Jeffrey, Leah left me this house in her will. Which makes sense, you know? Since we lived here during our 10 year marriage." "I haven't forgot Robbie," Jeff sighs as he recalls the day that Leah's will was read. "It was a few weeks ago so I didn't think anything would come of it." Robbie shrugs his shoulders. "Think again Jeffrey," Robbie winks back over at him. "I'm here to get my house back. Which means, unfortunately, you have to move out. And you have to move out today. I'm moving back in." Jeff looks back at Robbie in shock. "You can't be serious." "Do I look like I'm joking?" he replies to Jeff as he glares back at him. "Go pack a bag and you can have the rest of your stuff sent to where ever you end up." Jeff knows that there is no point in fighting with Robbie on this matter as it was written in Leah's will; he has no legal recourse. He nods back to Robbie and leaves the room to pack his bag, leaving Robbie alone in the living room. Robbie takes another drink before he smiles to himself. "This is just the start of making you pay for killing Leah," Robbie whispers to himself. "I will make sure you pay for taking her away from Paige and I." Next
