Me Like You" Gwen Stefani Previously
on One Day at a Time Scene One - Twin Peaks General Hospital Frederick looks around the hospital room, his eyes unable to focus on one thing in particular as he is still recovering from his gunshot wounds. He can see a woman standing next to him, which happens to be a nurse, who is administrating some more drugs into his IV cord. He slowly raises his arm, trying to get her attention, which works to his relief. "Dr. Richardson," the young nurse says looking at him. "You're awake. You know, detective Lopez was here earlier but you were asleep. She left again to celebrate new year's eve." Frederick moves his hand to his oxygen mask and tries to remove it but he is unable too because he is too weak. The nurse moves closer to him and removes his mask for him. "Make sure you speak slowly so you don't over extend yourself," she cautions him, knowing that he is still weak. "Llllll .ooopezzzzzz," he manages to say to her, needing to see the detective. "Lllllooopppeeeez." The nurse nods back to him. "Yes, like I said, the detective was here but you were fast asleep. I can try to call her again, but I'm not sure she can come back tonight. This might have to wait until tomorrow." "Ttttrrry," he tells her as she puts the oxygen mask back on. His brain is racing inside his head but he doesn't have the ability to speak. He hates feeling this way but knows that in time he will get better. Once that happens, he will reveal everything that happened to him the day he was shot but in the meantime, he wants to tell Lopez who shot him at least. "I will try," she tells him as he gives her a brief smile. "In the meantime, you need to get as much rest as you as you can so you get better and get out of this place." Scene Two - The Pampa Grill The restaurant has been transformed into the setting of the annual New Year's Eve party that takes place. This year's theme colours are blue and gold; all the usual tables have been cleared out to make room for a large dance floor. Tables surround the dance floor, some for sitting and some that have food on them for the guests. Waiters, of course, are circling with any kind of beverage that the guests may desire. "When you left the hospital, how was Dad doing?" Meggan asks Daisy, as she holds a glass of sparkling water and Daisy has a glass of champagne. A part of her feels bad for being at the party to celebrate the new year when her father is fighting for his life in the hospital, but she also wanted to keep living her life because she knows that is what Frederick would want for her. Daisy looks back at new found half-sister with worry. "Well," she begins to say, recalling her last update from the hospital. "He was awake and asking to see the police detective that is working on his case." "Yea, he was asking for Lopez too when I was there last. I know she showed up but Dad was sleeping again." Daisy nods back to her as Vinny comes up to them. "Ladies, Happy New Year." "Happy New Year Vinny," Meggan replies to him. "We were just saying that when Dad wakes up he keeps asking for the police." Vinny uneasily looks back at her, recalling how he threatened Frederick the day of the shooting. "Has he spoken to the police again?" "No," Daisy tells him. "Whenever Simona Lopez arrived back at the hospital, Dad has fallen back asleep. That's not the worst thing in the world, mind you." "I wonder what he wants to tell her " Meggan whispers to them, her mind racing with the possibilities. "I hope it's nothing bad." Daisy arches her eyebrow. "With Frederick, who knows." *** Meggan excuses herself from Daisy and Vinny and moves over to Jeff, who is looking at his phone hoping to have received a message from Leah or Paige wishing him a happy new year. He knows that he didn't see either of them over the Christmas holiday, and that is upsetting to him. He knows that everything is a mess right now but he wishes his family would still come together for the holiday season. All he wants is some kind of normalcy in his life again. "You keep looking at the screen," Meggan announces to him as she comes up to him, observing that he has not stopped staring at his phone. "What are you looking for?" Jeff sighs as he looks back at her. "I was hoping to hear from Leah or Paige," he admits to her. "Makes sense." "How is your Dad?" "When he is awake, he's asking to see the police," she reveals to him. "But he falls back asleep before he can speak to them." Jeff arches his eyebrow, thinking about how he visited Frederick the day of the shooting and threatened him for hurting his family so much. This entire mess with Leah and Paige is largely Frederick's fault, and Jeff knows that. "Suppose it's a good thing that he is even awake," Jeff finally replies to her. "For a while, it didn't seem like that was even possible." Meggan nods back to him as Leah approaches them. "Jeff, hi," Leah announces to them. "I got your message on Christmas morning, sorry I didn't get back to you." "That's fine," Jeff tries to put a smile on his face. "How was your holiday?" "It was nice to be with the family again," Leah admits to him. "Robbie, Paige and I, we had some nice family time." Jeff feels his blood start to boil hearing that Leah, Paige and Robbie were spending time together. "You should see these new pictures we took," Leah announces as she takes out her phone and shows Jeff and Meggan the new family pictures they took. Jeff can't believe his eyes; Robbie, Leah and Paige look so happy in the pictures, just like a real family would. He quickly gives the phone back to Leah as he forces a smile on his face, trying to hide his disappointment. "Those turned out really nice," he manages to say. "I thought so too," she tells him. "I still can't remember much, but I'm hoping spending time with my family will help me remember everything." "I hope it works," Jeff replies to her as he looks over at Meggan. "Meggan, how is your Dad?" Leah asks her, trying to keep the conversation going until she sees Robbie arrive. "Better," she informs Leah. "He keeps waking up and asking for the police, so that's a good sign?" Leah nods back to her as she arches her eyebrow. "Very good sign, seems like it will be a great new year!" *** "Any news on your Dad?" Donovan asks Lukas as they each hold a glass of champagne and are talking in a corner of the restaurant. Donovan watches Lukas for a moment, wondering how Lukas is holding up considering everything that he is going through right now. He knows that Lukas' life went to hell after he finally came out to Frederick because Frederick threatened to disinherit him and then Frederick was shot. He can't imagine all of the emotions that Lukas must be feeling right now. "He's been waking up and asking for the police," Lukas reveals to Donovan, who looks back in surprise. "He hasn't spoken to the police yet, but it is only a matter of time before he does." "Wow," Donovan replies to him. "I wonder what he has to tell them?" Lukas shrugs. "I don't know," he admits to him. "I just wish this mess would be over." "How are you holding up? It can't be easy dealing with all of this." "It hasn't been," Lukas replies to him. "But you know what? Some good has come from this situation." Donovan arches his eyebrow again before he takes a sip of his champagne. "Like what?" "The fact that someone so close to me as faced death in the eyes, it's just made me realize how short life is and it has helped me realize what I want to do with my life," Lukas reveals to him. "That's great," Donovan says back to him. "Clarity is always a good thing to have." Lukas nods back to him as he licks his lips. "I want you," he tells Donovan, who looks back in surprise. "I never stopped loving you, Donovan. I want us to try to put our relationship back together. This has made me realize that I do love you, I always have." Donovan doesn't know what to say back to him. Lukas leans in and gives him a quick kiss lips, which Craig happens to spot from across the room. Craig feels his stomach turn as he sees his former lover kiss his current lover, so he quickly walks out of the room, leaving the party. He has no idea what is going on between Donovan and Lukas but he doesn't want to see anymore of what is unfolding in front of him. "I don't need an answer right away," Lukas tells Donovan as their lips part. "Just think about it okay?" Donovan nods back to him. "Of course, I will," he manages to say. "Happy New Year, Lukas." "Happy New Year, Donovan." *** "I couldn't help but over hear," Adam announces to Chris and Helen, who are sharing a toast with their glasses of champagne. "Frederick is awake and asking to see the police?" Helen watches Chris for a moment as she knows that Chris wasn't happy to hear that Frederick was waking up; she sees him roll his eyes, almost upset that Frederick didn't die from the gunshot wounds. It is a side to Chris that she has never seen before, but she isn't sure that she likes it at the same time. She gets why Chris hates Frederick but it still isn't a flattering look on him. "That's right," Helen replies to him quickly, still watching Chris look upset. "We don't know what he wants to tell them, but he is asking for the police when he is awake." "Maybe he knows who shot him?" Adam suggests to them. "Let's not talk about Frederick Richardson anymore tonight," Chris interjects. "That man doesn't deserve our time." Before either Adam or Helen can reply, Helen's cell phone rings. She opens her purse and grabs her phone and picks it up. "Hello," she says. "Oh, Dawn! Baby! You're okay! You have no idea how worried I've been about you." "It's Dawn?" Adam asks her, as Helen nods back to him. "How is she?" Chris watches the two ex's as joy comes over their faces as they hear Dawn speak to Helen. He turns away from them, realizing that he is an outsider right now. He shuts his eyes, and while he can hear Helen talk to her daughter, he can't help but wonder about Frederick and what the doctor wants to discuss with the police. "I just wish he would have died," he whispers to himself as he opens his eyes. *** "Jemma? It's Daisy," Daisy says into her cell phone as Vinny stands next to his wife, having just told her that when he visited Jemma the other day, she wasn't feeling well. While Daisy hasn't completely forgiven Jemma for her lies regarding her paternity, she doesn't want her Mom to be sick. "I'm calling because I wanted to see how you're doing. Vinny told me you weren't feeling well." "You know, I really appreciate you checkin' up on me like this," Jemma replies to her, from her hotel room. "I ain' feelin' the greatest yet, but I'll get there. Sometimes these things just take some time, ya know?" "Is there anything I can do?" "No," Jemma says back to her. "Well, actually, how is Frederick doin? He ain' been on the news lately." "He's been waking up every so often," Daisy informs her. "And when he does, he's asking to speak to the police. Unfortunately, when they arrive, he's fallen back asleep. The nurse that is with him believes that he knows who shot him and wants to tell the detective." "I see," Jemma uneasily says. "Well, Daisy, thanks again child for the call. You have a Happy New Year, you hear? Imma gonna head back to bed." "Happy New Year to you too," Daisy smiles through the phone. "And, feel better Jemma." *** "Hey, Happy New Year," Max announces to Robin as he comes up to the woman that he has a crush on. He saw Robin and Adam together but when Adam went over to talk to Helen, Max thought that he would take the time to scoop in and see her. "Happy New Year," she replies to him, before she takes a sip of her champagne. "Are you having a good time?" "Yea, it's alright," he says to her. "Did you have a nice Christmas?" "I really did," she tells him. "My family was all together for the first time in a very long time, which is what the holidays should be about, you know?" Max nods back to her. "I get it," he reveals to her. "My Dad stopped by to see my Mom and I. It was unexpected but really nice." "I didn't know that," Robin admits to him, thinking that Adam didn't say anything to her about the visit on Christmas day. "It was nice of him to stop by." "Yea," Max replies to her. "I must admit something to you though." "What's that?" "I'm looking forward to the holidays being over I'm ready to get back to work. I think you and I will make a good team." Robin smiles at him. "I couldn't agree more, Max." Without thinking, Max leans and kisses her, which is something he's wanted to do for so long. It only lasts for a moment before she pushes him away, shocked that he actually kissed her. She told him before that they couldn't take that step in their relationship but he's gone ahead and kissed her now. "Max " she gasps as their lips part. "Don't say anything," he whispers back to her, with a grin on his face. "Just consider that my New Year's present to you." *** "I showed Jeff our family pictures," Leah tells Robbie as they walk side by side, as she recounts her visit with him and Meggan earlier in the evening. Robbie gulps and wonders how Jeff handled seeing him, Leah and Paige playing family together. He hates that he is putting Jeff in this position, but he can't help it; he wants Leah to remember and this is the best way for Leah's memory to possibly come back. They have to follow the doctor's orders after all to ensure that Leah can get her memory back. "How'd he take that?" Robbie asks her, curious by Jeff's reaction to the pictures. "He was fine," Leah replies to him. "Why wouldn't he be?" "No reason," Robbie covers. "Listen, people are counting down to midnight," she tells him as they hear the crowd start to count down. "5 4 3 2 1 Happy New Year!". She leans in and kisses Robbie on the lips, which Jeff and Meggan happen to see from near by. While they are kissing, Meggan gives Jeff a quick kiss on the lips. "Happy New Year," Leah smiles back to Robbie as their lips part. "Happy New Year Leah," he says back to her, realizing that he just took this charade to the next level. He doesn't know how Victoria will handle this news that he kissed Leah, but he hopes that she will understand that he's going along with this to help Leah. Meggan, meanwhile, looks back at Jeff. "Sorry, I shouldn't have." "It's fine," he tells her. "Happy New Year, Meg." "Happy New Year, Jeff." *** "Thanks again for getting Jacob a Christmas present," Natasha tells Cory as they sip champagne together as they sit together at a table. "I wasn't expecting you to do that." "I know," Cory nods back to her. "But, since we have grown closer, I thought it would be nice. After all, I am expecting to see a lot more of him in the new year." "Oh yea?" Natasha asks him, recalling how they made love recently, many times. "I guess I like the sound of that." "Me too. In fact, I can't wait for the next time," he whispers to her as he leans in and kisses her. "Happy New Year, Natasha." Their lips part. "Happy New Year, Cory." Shane stands across the restaurant and can't believe his eyes; Natasha and Cory are kissing. Does this mean that they are back together, after all this time? How can Natasha possibly have moved on from their failed marriage so quickly? Shane asks himself, as a million things run through his mind. He turns around and grabs another glass of champagne from a waiter that is walking by. He drinks it all quickly before he sees Cassie standing a few feet away from him. He recalls how previous the holiday's, Cassie kissed him. She immediately apologized and they agreed not to let that happen again. He finds himself moving closer to his therapist. "Happy New Year," he announces to her, as Cassie turns around and smiles back to him. "Happy New Year Shane," she replies to him. "Are you having a good time?" She uneasily nods back to him. "I guess so," she tells him. "I'm ready to go, if I'm honest." "You want me to walk you out? I think I'm leaving too." "Sure, I'd like that," Cassie tells him as they move to the door. They arrive at the exit, but Shane stops her from leaving the restaurant, his mind still racing about seeing Cory and Natasha kiss. "What are you doing?" she asks him. "This," he says as he pulls her closer and kisses her passionately. "Happy New Year," he manages to say after their lips part, leaving Cassie shocked by what just happened. *** Bob looks around the room for Kim, as they were just together to ring in the New Year, but now he can't seem to see his wife anywhere in the room. He grabs his glass of champagne and takes a swig of it, wondering what could have happened to Kim. "Where are you my love?" he asks himself as he takes another drink of his champagne. He pulls out his phone and realizes that he missed a message from his wife. "Went home, have a headache, not feeling so well, don't wake me, I'll be sleeping in the guest room." "That's odd," he says as he puts his phone back into his pocket. "She seemed fine a few minutes ago. Oh well, I hope she feels better," he tells himself as he puts his phone back into his pocket. "I guess I will head home soon." Scene Three - Tyler's Townhouse Kim knocks on the door of Tyler's townhouse furiously, hoping that he will be home and not out at some New Year's Party. She's freezing standing outside in the cold weather, so she is relieved when Tyler finally opens the door. "You're home," she says as she moves past him and into the living room. "Happy New Year Kim," he replies as he closes the door. "What brings you by?" "Is your Mom home?" she asks him as she turns to look at him. He shakes his head no. "She went to the Pampa Grill with my Dad and Eva," he tells her. "Why, what's going on?" "I'm here to settle this once and for all," she informs him as she purses her lips together. "One night and you'll be silent, right?" Tyler arches his eyebrow. "Does this mean ?" he starts to ask her as she undoes her trench coat and she lets it fall to the ground, exposing her naked body. "Damn," he says coming up to her and giving her a passionate kiss. "I want you so badly," he says as his mouth moves down to her neck. "You can have me," she whispers back to him. "Make love to me, Tyler. And then, we can put this all behind us." Scene Four - Twin Peaks General Hospital; 1:30 am The hospital is quiet as anyone who was celebrating the New Year has gone back to sleep. There are a few nurses wandering around checking on patients, but the hospital is unusually quiet for a night shift, not that anyone is complaining. Frederick lays in his hospital bed fast asleep. He hasn't woken up again since he asked to see Simona Lopez again earlier in the evening, and this is good since he needs rest to get better. A person dressed in all black slowly opens the door to his hospital room and looks at him sleeping. The figure moves up to Frederick and slowly removes his oxygen mask before removing a pillow from under his head. The black gloves covering the person's hands slowly put the pillow over Frederick's face and push down on it. Within a few minutes, the monitor showing Frederick's heart rate stops. The hands drop the pillow, leaving it on his face and they turn around and quickly leave the hospital room, leaving Frederick's dead body laying in the bed. Next on One
